Vishwa Hindi Diwas 2022
High Commission of India celebrated Vishwa Hindi Diwas on 10 January 2022 at the Chancery premises. The event was organized to promote Hindi and to create interest in Hindi language around the world. Members of Indian diaspora, Indians living in Malawi and officials and the families of the High Commission officials took part in the event.

Taking Clean India Campaigns to Schools in Lilongwe
As part of ongoing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Drive), High Commission of India On January 13, 2022 donated hygiene, sanitation and Covid related materials, including face masks, hand wash, dustbins, etc., to Chilambula Lea School, Area 5, Lilongwe and Mbizi Primary School, Area 3, Lilongwe to assist their efforts to contain the spread of covid-19.

Celebration of Makar Sankranti - Display of Rangoli
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, High Commission celebrated Makar Sankranti festival on 14 January 2022. Rangoli – an ancient Indian art form made by members of Indian diaspora, was displayed for two days at the prominent shopping mall (Gateway Mall), Lilongwe.

Celebration of 73rd Republic Day of India 2022
High Commission of India, Lilongwe celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on 26 January 2022 in its Chancery premises. The programme began with floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation by the High Commissioner, Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan. The High Commissioner unfurled the National Flag and read the Address to the Nation by Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. The ceremony was attended by large number of the members of Indian community. The Flag Hoisting ceremony was also live-streamed on High Commission’s Facebook.
In the evening, High Commissioner hosted a reception at the Bingu International Convention Centre, Lilongwe. Honourable Catherine Gotani Hara, Speaker of National Assembly of Malawi graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. A large number of guests including senior officials from the Government of Malawi, Heads of Missions/International Community, members of the Indian community and friends of India attended the event.

Community Outreach
High Commission organised an interaction with Indian Community in Malawi on 11 February 2022 and discussed on various developments/progress taking place in India. High Commissioner also briefed the diaspora on various events/programmes being planned in the coming months as part of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav and urged the community members to remain in touch with the High Commission. Members of Diaspora also discussed ways and means to further consolidate the diaspora's engagement with India.

Consular camp
As part of Mission's close engagement with Indian diaspora, High Commission of India organized Consular Camp to provide passport/OCI and other misc. services to Indian diaspora in Blantyre on 19 February 2022. More than 150 members of diaspora availed the services.

Webinar on Pharmaceutical Cooperation
The High Commission of India in association with PHARMEXCIL organized a Webinar on “India-Malawi Pharmaceutical Cooperation and Regulatory Development” on 23 February 2022. The objective of the Webinar was to facilitate and promote pharma trade between India and Malawi. The Webinar was followed by B2B meetings. High Commissioner of India, Shri S. Gopalakrishnan and Director General of PHARMEXCIL, Shri Ravi Udaya Bhaskar, made special remarks at the event. Over 80 companies from India and about 25 companies from Malawi participated at the B2B meetings.

High Commissioner’s meetings
High Commissioner met Hon’ble Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo (11 February), Hon’ble Minister of Trade & Industry Mark Katsonga (02 March), Hon’ble Minister of Youth, Richard Chimwendo (16 March) and Hon’ble Minister of Lands Samuel Kawale (17 March). During his meetings with the Ministers, High Commissioner discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest.

High Commissioner met Prof. Timothy Nyasulu, Vice Chancellor of Livingstonia University, Mzuzu and his Team at Chancery and discussed possible cooperation between Livinstonia University and the educational institutions in India.

Celebratation of Holi, “Festival of Colours”
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, High Commission celebrated Holi, "Festival of Colours" on 19 March 2022 at the High Commission. Members of Indian diaspora and High Commission officials and their families participated at the celebrations.

Freedom Ride
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, High Commission of India organized Freedom Ride, a Bike Rally on 04 June 2022 A large number of people, including children, enthusiastically participated at the event in Lilongwe and covered symbolic 7.5 Kms of distance to mark the 75 years of India’s independence.

High Commissioner visit to Business Incubation Centre at SMEDI
High Commissioner, along with Mr. Rodrick Chataika, CEO, SMEDI visited the Business Incubation Centre, set up with India's assistance at SMEDI, Mponela. The Incubation Centre provides short term training in the processing of Tomatoes, Mangos and Cassava. The Centre also has facilities to train students in semi-precious stone cutting & polishing techniques; compost processing unit and briquette unit.

Malawi Telgu Association (MATA) Lilongwe Chapter donated two sewing machines and built a kitchen and toilets at Mzumanzi Community-based Care Centre for a feeding programme and toilets at Pheleni Community-based Care Centre. Rejoice in hope Coordinator commended organisation for the gesture.

Prime Minister Modi participates in virtual summit of Quad leaders
On March 3, 2022, Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi participated at a virtual summit of Quad leaders, along with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The meeting reviewed the progress on Quad initiatives since the September 2021 Quad Summit. The leaders agreed on accelerating cooperation, with an objective to achieve concrete outcomes by the summit in Japan later this year. Read more

India becomes the largest provider of generic drugs globally. Indian pharmaceutical sector supplies over 50% of global demand for various vaccines, 40% of generic demand in the US and 25% of all medicine in the UK. Globally, India ranks 3rd in terms of pharmaceutical production by volume and 14th by value. Swiss Open badminton: PV Sindhu clinches women’s singles title
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu won Swiss Open 2022 women’s singles title with a win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongramrungphan at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel on March 27, 2022.
