Gifting of 50,000 Covishield Made in India Vaccines by Government of India to Government of Malawi


As a rumination of the special and strong relationship between India and Malawi, India, today gifted 50,000 doses of the Covieshield vaccine, developed by Oxford-AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, to the friendly people and the Government of Malawi as part of its Mission ‘Vaccine Maitri’. This gift is to meet the immediate requirements of vaccinating healthcare workers, front-line workers in Malawi.


India lives up to its global responsibilities as a supplier even in the times of crises, is a trusted and dependable friend and partner. India and Malawi share unique and special relations honored by time and nourished by cultural kinship.


The consignment of vaccines has been handed over to Malawi on humanitarian grounds as a gesture of friendship and solidarity between India and Malawi. The arrival of the vaccines in Malawi, marks another milestone in bilateral relations between both the countries.


The vaccines were handed over to the Ministry of Health on 12 March, 2021, at a presentation ceremony held at Kamauzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

The Government of India is actively engaged in supporting Government of Malawi in achieving its developmental goals through development schemes, gifts and grants. This gift of vaccine is another prominent milestone in furthering the warm and friendly relations between India and Malawi.
