Celebration of 73rd Republic Day of India 2022

High Commission of India, Lilongwe celebrated the 73rd Republic Day of India on 26 January 2022 in its Chancery premises. The programme began with floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation by the High Commissioner, Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan. The High Commissioner unfurled the National Flag and read the Address to the Nation by Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. The ceremony was attended by large number of the members of Indian community. The Flag Hoisting ceremony was also live-streamed on High Commission’s Facebook.

On the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day, High Commissioner Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan hosted a reception in the evening at the Bingu International Convention Centre, Lilongwe. Honourable Catherine Gotani Hara, Speaker of National Assembly of Malawi graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. A large number of guests including senior officials from the Government of Malawi, Heads of Missions/International Community, members of the Indian community and friends of India attended the event.

In his remarks, High Commissioner highlighted the progress that India has made since its independence in various fields. He also reiterated India’s commitment to assist Malawi’s development agenda. Honourable Speaker, in her remarks thanked India for its continued support and for being a true partner in the development of the country.
