India gifts  an Apparel Training Centre in Makoka, Malawi

      The Apparel Training Centre set up under a Kw 75 million grant assistance is a gift from the People and Government of India to the People and Government of Malawi.  A set of world class 20 Industrial Sewing machines along with   equipment like Steam boilers, Cutting machines shipped from India have been installed by technicians from India at Makoka Agriculture Research Centre in Zomba district. The first batch of 22 Malawian students successfully completed their training programme at the Apparel Training Centre on 15 September, 2016. The training facility is set up under the Cotton Technical Assistance Programme (Cotton TAP).

2.    The Guest of Honour, Hon’ble Dr. George T. Chaponda, MP, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development  handed over the certificates to the 22 trainees at a Valedictory function at the Institute.  Hon’ble Minister in his remarks thanked the people and Government of India for this generous gesture. He congratulated the students and encouraged them to use the skills learnt at the Centre. He conveyed that education is one of the best gifts that can be given to any student and Government of India has over the last several years, trained and educated several hundred Malawian nationals and contributed in strengthening the human resources of Malawi. He impressed upon the Makoka Agriculture Research Centre in Zomba district where the Training center is located, to ensure that the Centre functions well and the machines are utilized to its full capacity.

3.     Mr. Suresh Kumar Menon, High Commissioner of India to Malawi presided at the Valedictory function. The Centre was formally handed over by the Indian High Commissioner to the Government of Malawi after the valedictory function.   Mr. Menon in his remarks conveyed to the Hon’ble Minister that Government of India was committed to enhancing the bilateral relations and looked forward to assisting in projects that will enhance the Small and Medium enterprises and Agro-processing sector.

4.    This project is another milestone in furthering the warm and friendly relations between India and Malawi.
