India donates essential medicines to Malawi to combat Covid-19

As part of India’s 75^th Independence Day Celebrations [Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav] and ongoing collaboration with Malawi to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, Government of India today donated a 7 MTs consignment of essential medicines worth US$ 1.4 Million to the Government of the Republic of Malawi. High Commissioner Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan handed over the medicines to the Hon’ble Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda at a ceremony held today at the Central Medical Store, Lilongwe. This donation underscores the friendly ties between India and Malawi.

India has also been offering e-ITEC short training online webinars on COVID-19 Management Strategies to Africa including Malawi. So far, 4 medical professionals from Malawi have benefited from these courses. In March 2021, India donated 50,000 doses of “Made in India” COVID vaccines to Malawi. In July 2020, India donated essential medicines worth US$2 Million to Malawi.

India and Malawi enjoy longstanding, cordial and friendly relations. India is a close developmental partner of Malawi, and remains committed to assist Malawi in its socio-economic developmental efforts including the health and welfare of the friendly people of Malawi. The gift of medicines is yet another manifestation of India’s unwavering commitment to support Malawi.
