Celebration of 76th Independence Day of India
 
        The 76th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Lilongwe with a flag-hoisting ceremony on 15 August, 2022 at the High Commission premises. The ceremony was attended by members of Indian Community and friends of India enthusiastically in large number. The Chancery premise was decorated with tricolor to mark the celebration of 75 Years of India’s Independence.
 
2.    High Commissioner of India, H.E. S. Gopalakrishnan, hoisted the tricolor, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. The Address by the Hon'ble Rashtrapatiji on the eve of India’s 76th Independence Day was played during the ceremony. A short cultural program was also organized during the ceremony in which members of the Indian Community chorused patriotic songs. Also, a short video on ‘India@75’ was played at the event. In the evening, High Commission in association with Indian Country Club and Indian Community Forum organized a programme to celebrate the 76th Independence Day at the Indian Country Club, Lilongwe. 


3.    In his remarks at both the events, High Commissioner highlighted the achievements made by India during the last 75 years. He noted how India turned all the challenges into opportunities and made exemplary achievements in diverse fields particularly in the field of space, information technology, pharma and service sectors. He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message that the journey of the next 25 years would mark the ‘Amrit Kaal’ that would make India ‘Viksit Bharat’- a strong and developed India. High Commissioner also highlighted the good work that the Indian Diaspora has been doing and appreciated their role in strengthening India-Malawi relations. He also urged the members of the Indian diaspora to be a part of India’s success story and contribute to Government of India’s various initiatives to make India self –reliant- ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’. 

 
4.     The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign was commemorated with Indian Tricolor being displayed in large numbers during both events.
