High Commission of India, Lilongwe celebrated ‘Holi’ on 14 March 2026 at India House. Holi, often called the Festival of Colours, is one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated festivals of India. It marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, joy over negativity and the renewal of relationships.
Honourable Chipiliro Mpinganjira, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Government of the Republic of Malawi, graced the occasion as ‘Guest of Honour’. Over 200 persons including members of the diplomatic community, senior officials from Government of Malawi, members of Indian diaspora, Friends of India and High Commission officials and their families enthusiastically participated in the celebrations.
Chief of Defence Forces General George Jaffu Junior and Ms Fiona Kalambe, Clerk of Parliament (Secretary General) were among senior dignitaries from Malawi Government, who attended the Programme.
The programme came alive with cultural performances by members of the Indian community and a lively showcase of dance performances by a Malawian cultural troupe - reflecting the spirit of friendship and cultural harmony between India and Malawi. Same Malawian cultural troupe also participated in the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela held in India from 31 January to 15 February 2026.
The celebrations concluded with everyone coming together to play Holi with colours and dance -spreading joy and festive cheer.
The programme was thoroughly enjoyed by all the guests, who appreciated the vibrant performances and festive atmosphere.
