High Commissioner Mr. Amararam Gujar hosted a Reception at Pearl Convention Centre, Lilongwe on 26 January, 2026 to commemorate 77th Republic Day of India. Hon'ble Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. George T. Chaponda, MP graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. A large number of guests including Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior officials from the Government of Malawi, Heads of Missions/International Organizations, representatives of UN Organizations, members of Indian community, friends of India, social media influencers and media persons attended the event. Among the senior dignitaries who participated in the Program were 9 Cabinet Ministers, 4 Deputy Ministers and 8 Principal Secretaries (Equivalent to Secretary rank in GoI). During the Programme, Mission also organized cultural performances including Odissi dance, folk dance by members of the Malawi Telugu Association (MATA) and fusion dance performance of Bharatnatyam and Odissi. Invitees, in large number, took photos at the Selfie Booth set up by the Mission to commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram at the Convention Centre. A cake was also cut by the High Commissioner along with the Guest of Honor and other Ministers.
In his remarks, High Commissioner highlighted India's clear vision of Viksit Bharat - a Developed India by 2047 and that India is firmly on track to become the world's third-largest economy by the end of this decade. The High Commissioner also highlighted initiatives taken by India to contribute to the development of Malawi and to enhance bilateral engagement with Malawi.
