The
High Commission of India, Lilongwe celebrated the 142nd birth
anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and National Unity Day on
Tuesday, 31st
October 2017. The High Commissioner garlanded the portrait of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel and recounted the significant contributions of
Sardar Patel to the country and its unity, in his remarks. High
Commissioner conveyed that due to the significance of the
contributions of Sardar Patel, the Government of India observes 31st
October as the National Unity Day, every year. The members of the
Indian community also paid tributes to Sardar Patel, the iconic
leader of India. The event was hosted at premises of the High
Commission of India.
2. The
programme included screening the documentary films on the life and
times as well as the contributions of Sardar Patel to India.
Besides, the Mission also distributed prizes to three winners of the
quiz competition organized by it on Sardar Patel held online on 30th
October 2017. The High Commissioner also administered a pledge for
National Unity to the officials in the High Commission during the day
to commemorate Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary as National Unity
Day.
3. About
70 members of the Indian community gathered at the venue to
participate in the celebrations on birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
The event was attended by prominent members of the community which
included Mr. Jayanti Lal Thakrar who also spoke on the occasion.
